WAAG SOCIETY
The most interesting and difficult issues in the world right now are interdisciplinary by nature. Where different fields meet, however, friction occurs. This friction can drive people apart but at the same time fuel creativity and creation. This place where anything is possible and unknown is what I love most.
With a background in neuro- and biomedical sciences and a speciality in interdisciplinary problems, my interest focuses on the growing field of bio-engineering, synthetic biology and what it means to be human. Because of the societal impact of these inventions, I especially love the collaborations between art and sciences because of their very different views and values. Both have a great deal to learn from each other if they are open to each others’ viewpoints.
Within the Hybrid Network Lab, I coordinate the BioHack Academy at the Waag where we open the world of biological engineering to artists and enthusiasts to see what they will do with this new power. I like to see myself as the bridge between people and worlds to help make the world a little bit more beautiful.
